The Report below was written by Blake Plysiuk of the Vernon Off Road Motorcycle Club

Saturday’s cleanup was a great success with 30+ volunteers from the Vernon Off Road Motorcycle Club, Vernon ATV Club and Vernon Fish and Game Club taking part as well as one member of the North Okanagan Cycling Society.

The effort was centered around the metal bin truck from ABC Recycling that Kane Blake from the OFTF organized to have on site for the heavy metal and the 40-yard bin that was donated and supplied by Randy Meier of LRM Contracting (also President of Vernon Fish and Game Club).

We effectively removed six tons of scrap metal and four tons of garbage from the watershed of Noble Canyon from the 2km area of Noble Canyon FSR on up to the 5km area of Becker FSR.

Three RV’s, countless nails from burned pallets, fridges, washers, dryers, furniture, dishwashers and other waste have all been removed.

Thank you to Dale and Tricia for working with us and Randy to have the tipping fees covered without us having to pay upfront at the Landfill Scale! Many thanks to out to LRM Contracting for donating the trucking and bin use, to ABC Recycling for the truck and operator, to all the volunteers involved and to Kane Blake of the OFTF for his tireless efforts to combat the epidemic of garbage dumping in our backcountry.

Moving forward we suggest that the CO Service pay closer attention to the squatters in Noble Canyon and remind them that they must remove all garbage prior to vacating their camp spot. I think some applied pressure would go a long way to curb this.
